Interfaith Witness & Nonviolent Action

Nonviolent Civil Disobedience

03/07/2008 - 4:00pm
03/07/2008 - 5:00pm

A number of us will be led by conscience to pray (or meditate) and remain in prayer near the Capitol steps or another location in coordination with Congressional meetings without delegation. We will do this to faithfully dramatize the moral urgency of ending the war once and for all. By remaining in place in continuous prayer for peace, we will quite likely be placed under arrest.

INTERFAITH WITNESS AND DIRECT ACTION FOR PEACE

03/07/2008 - 2:30pm
03/07/2008 - 4:00pm
Come together at the Upper Senate Park at the edge of the Capitol for an interfaith service and inspirational speeches.
The interfaith program features Rev. James Forbes (Senior Pastor Emeritus of Riverside Church in New York), Rabbi Michael Namath (Director of the Religious Action Center of Reformed Judaism), and Ms. Asma Mirza (National President of the Muslim Student Association) as speakers, with prayers, comments and ritual led by Dr. Sayyid Syeed (Islamic Society of North America), Rev. Bill Sinkford (Unitarian Universalists of America), Rev. Michael Kinnamon (National Council of Churches), Ms. Sammie Moshenberg (National Council of Jewish Women), Chris Montone (Shambhala Buddhist Center), Rabbi Arthur Waskow (Shalom Center), Rev. Bob Edgar (Common Cause), and Ms. Samina Faheem Sundas (American Muslim Voice), among others, concluding with a sharing of bread among all participants. Music will be led by Sharon Abreu, HawaH, Native Deen and Mary Shapiro.
